Big wall solo climbing

Equipement:

  • General: two ropes (climbing and hauling), harness, shoes, helmet, carabiners, quick draws, cordelette, hauling bags, tape, chalk
  • Devices: self belay device (e.g. Modified GriGri, Soloist, Silent Partner), descend device, jumar device, hauling device
  • Protection:
    • Trad: cams, nuts, (nuttool,) slings, hexes
    • Aid: pitons, beaks, copperheads, (hammer,) skyhooks (, aiders)
  • Non climbing: food, drink, clothes, portaledge, sleeping bag, shit tube, toothbrush, toothpaste, stove

Procedure:
The following steps you have to do again and again for every pitch til the summit.

  1. Setup an anker at the bottom and clip in the hauling bags, climbing and hauling rope.
  2. Connect yourself with the climbing rope via the self belay device, attach the other end of the hauling rope to yourself and start climbing up.
  3. Setup an anker on the top, clip in the climbing rope and the hauling rope and descend with the descend device on the hauling rope.
  4. Remove the bottom anker, connect the hauling bags to the hauling rope and jumar up the climbing rope while cleaning the gear from the wall.
  5. Clip in to the top anker and haul the hauling bags with the hauling device.
